2016

Retired 5 yrs. ago as school librarian after 29 years in education.  Now am wondering how I ever had time to work as days seem to be filled and never enough time to do everything I had imagined completing after retirement.  Larry is in accounting with an oil company and we have endured the booms and busts in Midland, TX, for 25 years, transferring here from Clinton.

Larry & I are now trying to do "bucket list" traveling and still love "camping" in our small Casita.  Would eventually love to say we have been to every state.  Hoping to head to the Northeast this fall.

Our daughter Kelly Hammontree and family live here in Midland.  She and Shay have 3 sons: Ethan 8, Logan 6, and Hudson 3.  Our son Brian and family live in Saudi Arabia and we usually get to see them 1 or 2 times a year when they must take repat.    He and Taffy have 3 daughters:  Emma 13, Lora 10, and Prathibha 5 (adopted).

Stay busy spending time with family, traveling/camping, and, when there is a free day, researching family genealogy or reading.

Since CHS

Attended Mississippi University for Women and finished in 3 years after which Larry & I were married and, with a small break in-between while he was in the Army National Guard, we headed to Hattiesburg for him to finish at Southern Miss.

Moved back to Clinton several years later and were there until moving to Midland in 1991. Taught science at Clinton Jr. High in the old elementary school under principal Billy Ray Smith for 3 years. Always thought we would move back closer to Mississippi when we retired, but our kids both married Midlanders and we figure that this is probably home now.

CHS Years

*"Going steady" for life

*Driving to Shoney's after school for onion rings

*Band  - will always remember the trip to Enid, Oklahoma, for contests and evacuating the girls' overnight accommodations due to a gas leak. Hated marching rehearsals first thing in the mornings and then going to classes all day with spraynet-matted hair from the damp air.

*O'leary's classes & comments about the W - influenced my decision to attend college there and study chemistry, biology and math.

*Piano lessons from Mrs. Treloar and Mrs. Harrison and senior recital

*Smith, Barfield, and Gorton and instruction we received in language and literature - even loved diagramming sentences, but what a headache typing term papers with a manual typewriter, carbon copies, & leaving room at the bottom of each page for footnotes
