Larry Trest

After graduating from Clinton High School, I attended the University of Southern Mississippi and received a degree in Business and Political Science. I started my career with the State of Mississippi - Department of Rehabilitation Services. I worked there for seventeen years; then, I transferred to the Department of Human Services - Department of Welfare, where I have been for the past eight years as a Purchasing Agent. As of the first of August, I completed twenty-five years of service and would be entitled to retire with full benefits, but I can't.

Janice and I have been married for nine years. She is employed by SkyTel, which was recently purchased by WorldCom.

We have two children. Shelbie, our daughter is eight years old, and Tyler, our son, is two years old. Yes, folks out there, I have a two-year old child. And, yes, if you are wondering, my wife is much younger than I am. HA!! It took me a few years longer to realize what my friends knew in high school. But, better late then never, I suppose.

I have two sisters and one brother. They all had girls, and I am the only one who has a son to carry on the family name. I am really blessed. I have a cute wife and two blonde-haired, blue-eyed kids. But, it's not easy having a two-year old around the house, because he is a handful.

I have a lot of hobbies. My favorite was tennis -- a game in which I found I
could compete, even if I didn't have two good legs. And, I was not a bad player -- if I do say so. However, thirty years of playing three or four times a week has now caught up with me.

I also loved to hunt, but I can't walk like I use to. So, I don't find much sport in hunting anymore, which should make John Turcotte happy. John and I have shot a few ducks. He thought I was an outlaw, anyway.

Mostly these days I love to read, and I read several books a week.

I also have a hobby that takes up a lot of my time and money. I love my flowers and plants. At one time, when I lived with my parents in Clinton, I owned over 300 potted plants. It sort of got kind of out of hand. Now, I have a few of my favorites left and spend most of my time with flowers in my yard. By the way, Art Pearson, if you read this, I always wondered where you came from. But since you like flowers, you can't be all that bad. So, bring me some of your Day Lillies, if you have a lot, in July.

I live in Brandon, Mississippi in the country, so I can have my flowers in my yard. And, I thought the neighborhood was old until Don Connolly and Ron Horne moved in.
