The "Long" Of It
I've watched the sun set in Key West, cruised the Caribbean, driven across the Golden Gate Bridge, rocked on the porch of the Grand Hotel, shouted in the streets of New York, and sailed the waters of the Gulf, but Clinton has always been my final destination. Strong family ties, good friends, and a job that I love have made me a real hometown girl!
Just like all of you, though, there have been times in my life when trouble and difficulties just seemed to have ganged up, but I quickly learned that pain was inevitable and misery was optional; so, I would just "Stick a Geranium in My Hat and Be Happy!" (Barbara Johnson)
Robert Frost said he could sum up everything he learned about life in three words: "It Goes On."
And, so, after 32 years of teaching, I'm ready to retire and begin a new chapter in my life. Since losing my mom and dad just a few years ago, I have moved back into my original home on College Street. My daughter, Wendy, now 30, lives in the Memphis area where she teaches. She and I are looking forward to being able to visit more often after my retirement this year. (updated - 2004)
