Amylou Douglas Flournoy

Amylou graduated from Mississippi College in 1970. She spent the next 25 years in the electrical wholesale business working in sales, purchasing and outside sales.

On November 22, 1986, she married Bryan Flournoy, a Vicksburg native, in the Church at the Mississippi Agriculture Museum.
(Note: The Fortenberry Home is on exhibit there, and Amy's Mother played with the Fortenberry children when she was a child in Marion County.)

Amy and Bryan's honeymoon was to Hong Kong and Beijing, taking in the Great Wall. Bryan has given her itchy feet (not athlete's foot), and they travel as often as they can get away. Bryan took her on a photographic safari to South Africa. She would love to return to Capetown. Amy really enjoyed cruising the Mediterranean and visiting Italy, Greece and Turkey. She was surprised at how much she liked Istanbul. Another place to revisit?

Because of Bryan's interest in the stock market, Amylou joined a women's investment club in 1989. She now belongs to three (two of which she helped start) and is on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana/Mississippi Chapter for Better Investing, a non-profit educational association.

In addition, she belongs to the Le Bonte` Women's Club of Clinton (along with Ruth Ann Maddox Broome and Peggy Blake Cudd), Junior Auxiliary of Byram-Terry, Inc.(is a founding member), Jackson Association of Realtors, Byram Business Association, and a writer's club . Amy is secretary of the Magnolia State Chapter of the MSDAR. Also, she is serving as an Alderman in the City of Byram, after working for 12-1/2 years to help the citizens of the Byram community to incorporate. Supervisor Phil Fisher has appointed Amylou to serve on the Zoning and Planning Board for Hinds County.

In 1995, she made a career change and began selling real estate for Gary S. Smith Real Estate in Jackson, MS. In the spring of 1999, she obtained her builder's license. In 2008 Century 21 - Maselle and Associates purchased the Gary Smith franchise making her a Century 21 agent.

My Dad passed away in 1990, and my Mother died in 1983 with Alzheimer's. Just recently, I discovered a note, written in her handwriting, and I wanted to share it with our class. At life's end, I hope I can say that I have done this.

Laugh often, love much
Win respect of people
and affection of children.
To appreciate beauty
to find the best
in other people.
To give of one's self
without thought of
return. Trust in God.
